sbi (sleepy bois inc) is a sub-fandom of dsmp (dream smp), based on the minecraft server founded in 2020. though this source media is known for its controversial members, insane covid-festering fan space, and twitter posts that read like satire, its rudimentary video game medium proved to be the grounds on which one of the internet's greatest hand-built fandom was constructed.

sbi refers the group dynamic of four specific content creators: philza, technoblade, wilbur soot, and tommyinnit. fans were particularly attached to this friend group, so when the dsmp dissolved in early 2023, the sbi fandom (specifically sbitwt), known as one of the most dominant fic producers for an exclusively platonic fandom, exploded in activity with the diverted attention.

ultimately, with the passing of technoblade, the confirmed abuse allegations against wilbur soot, the flourishing stand-up comedy career of tommyinnit, and the hardcore minecraft and qsmp focus of philza, the group was permanently fractured, and the fandom followed suit. fic and art production drastically decreased as fans moved to other fandoms in what some internet spaces call 'the second dsmp migration' in reference to the mass exodus of fans following the dissolution of the dsmp. it's a running internet joke that a former dsmp artist can be identified by how they draw their eyes, and a former dsmp writer can be identified by how they write platonic relationships (excellently).

though a large part of the sbi fandom was dedicated to fictional depictions of sbi rpf, i exclusively write within dsmp canon or, more frequently, in au. thus, unless explicitly stated or contextually implied (as in the previous paragraph) please assume that when i say someone's name i am refering to the character, not the real person.
